The Chicago Board of Education voted to close 50 Chicago public schools. The closures – the largest in US history - effected 30,000 students in Chicago's poor neighborhood. Parents, student and community activists were outraged. Many children would have to walk pass abandon building, drug dealers, and even cross gang lines into unfamiliar territory just for their education.
